    Cool Doghouse!

You know the infamous 2 minute job? The one that turns into a 2 hour job?

Well, I was painting the radiator surround metallic blue on a neat little HotWheels 1930s Ford, (an important job I'm sure you'll agree, and it does improve the look, kinda tying the whole thing together,) & when I'd finished and was popping the lid back on, the paint pot shot out from under my thumb (rather like my girlfriend is going to, when she gets in from work this evening,) and spun through the air and across the only decent bit of carpet we've got.

So the rest of my day goes like this: Clean the worst of it off the table and wood floor so I don't tread it everywhere. Get out a bottle of white spirit. Using a small pump action sprayer douse all the deep blue lines and spots on the otherwise white (yes it had to be white,) carpet.

Rub the pile and repeat. And guess what? It works quite well.

Fluffing up the pile then spraying with more white spirit seems to take the worst of the colour down into the fibres and away from the surface. I'm still guessing that to the untrained eye it looks like an open can of dark blue paint has recently gone for a roll across the living room carpet, but it's a whole lot better than 2 hours ago.

My GF gets in around 6pm. If she doesn't faint from the stench of white spirit in the living room, (nobody smoke!!) she's going to throw a fit, so I've hidden all the small hard objects that might otherwise come to hand.

If we 'hear nothing' we will assume the worst......
Perhaps you should prepare a 'bug out bag' early just in case???

You could point out it's 'er indoors fault for choosing a white carpet (recommend you wear helmet & body armour at this stage) ?

My niece is in Brighton, I'll phone and ask if she's heard screams yet......

O.K Steve I've read about your dillema and gave it some very serious thought.Heres the plan, get down on one knee, most important of all this must be done DIRECTLY OVER THE BIT YOU HAVE PAINTED BLUE [by mistake ] and ask her to marry you,it will work I gaurantee. After a luvvy duvvy night together make a full English breakfast in the morning and take it up to the bedroom along with a red rose between your teeth for added effect, its precisely at this moment you break the news. Please post the results and send me a bottle of scotch for Christmas, happy to help.

Andy - have you considered a newspaper column or perhaps a phone-in slot with Lorraine Kelly?

It is 9:45 Central Time here in the USA and no word from our intrepid correspondent. We fear the worst may have befallen him..............
