Good evening all,
I apologise in advance if I've posted this in the wrong section, this is my first go!
I have recently purchased a SR500 as a non runner due to a tight engine. Having pulled the flywheel off I pleased to see the problem here. The segments which line the inside of the wheel have seperated and jammed up against the stator. So a few questions;
1. What is the purpose of these segments? As the wheel is still magnitised with them removed would the alternator still work without them just less efficient?
2. Any suggestions on where to buy a replacement?

Thanks in advance.

If the magnets in the rotor have started to delaminate then it's junk, not only do they generate the electrical power for the bike while spinning around the stator, there is also the ignition "trigger" magnet embedded in the rotor. It's also possible that if the rotor has jammed against the stator, the stator (especially ignition pick-up coils) could have become damaged.

Speak to forum sponsor & electrical expert Marcus here http://www.rexs-speedshop.com/

He'll advise on your way forward and will possibly (probably) have the parts you need.

Good luck

Max

Hi Max,
Thanks for your reply.
Luckily stator was largely untouched.
One of the two thin segment with no windings on it did get bent, it straightened up ok. I bet your going to tell me this is an ignition pick up!

Regards
Martin

Fingers crossed not , just in case, if you've got a test meter, follow the notes here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0BD_M ... ef=2&pli=1 on how to prove they're ok or not

Marcus @ Speedshop has put a lot of work into keeping the SR ignition system working.

If the magnets are loose then the flywheel is scrap. The stator may have been damaged too - this will need checking as well.

Hi,
No luck with DK spares.
You mentioned earlier that the SR400 has the same flywheel. Do you know whether the new SR400 has the same flywheel?

Thanks
Martin.
