Mikuni VM36 - settings - again!

Postby mwbaldwin » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:17 am

Hi All

I am about to upgrade to a VM36 round slide kit and have read all the many settings posted.

There seems to be "general" agreement on what works best, but I am unclear as to what needle and needle jet settings I should start with

I live in UK at sea level

Any suggestions most appreciated

Cheers

Mark (Surrey - near Box Hill for anyone who knows)

This is what was in my old carb kit on arrival. Pilot jet on each side of shown provided as with the Main jet. I found the jetting to be slightly rich.

Mikuni/White Brothers, VM 36mm

Pilot jet: 30
Throttle Valve: 2.5
Needle Jet; P8 – 159
Needle: 6DH3-3
Main Jet: 230
Air jet: None
Air-screw: 1.5 turns out

Paul, for the air jet I assume you mean that it is the stock 2.0 that comes in the vm36, right? I can't imagine you would be running without an air jet at all. I just got my vm36 and will be installing it fairly soon so I have been trying to find info on this as well.

None means there was no air jet installed as received. This was a White Bros. carb kit for the Yamaha 500. I have purchased two over the years. The only difference between them was the first came with a 1.5 throttle valve, neither has a air jet installed.
